Evgeni Shetikhin was born in Minsk, Belarus in 1960; however he believes his native town is Rechitsa in Gomel Region, where he has spent the longest part of his adult life.
He has been an active artist since 1994. He works in a mixed technique, which combines small plastic art, sculpture and painting. One can hardly call the pictures of Evgeni Shetikhin to be canvases, because they are three-dimensional.
For example, the viewer can see a real panorama of the Egyptian lifestyle made by the skilled sculptor of clay and painted by the talented artist, who tried to create true Middle East coloring, spirit of ancient time, humor and even sarcasm sometimes. It is all done in such an attractive, real, vivid and touchy manner that one feels as if looking out of the window in some ancient castle, and as if one needs to make just a few more steps to get into different time and space, into the world of Ancient Egypt and Indochina.
The subjects of the Shetikhin's art vary largely: historical genre, epos of the world's nations, architecture, religious plots, etc. The content of his pictures is filled by deep philosophical meaning reflecting the inside world of the author. He admires various visual art styles. His works are characterized by realism, surrealism, grotesque... Recent exhibitions show the oil paintings of the artist made in a traditional artistic manner.
Over 40 personal exhibitions of the artist have taken place in Belarus, Poland, Italy, Germany, Baltic, USA, etc.
The artist was the award-winner of the Florentine Biannual Exhibition in Italy in 2003. He is one of the few Belarusian authors whose works are represented in international catalogues.
The works by Evgeni Shetikhin are in collections of various museums, including the foreign ones. The artist has an unusual hobby to willingly present his works. One can find his works in the private collections of Pierre Richard, Susi Quattro and of other modern representatives of politics and show business.
